Password Protection

1. Prepare to create a Zip file. See How to use Winzip, Steps 1 - 8.

2. Prior to clicking the "Add" button or selecting "Enter" in the "Add dialog box", click the "Password" button. See Figure 3 .

NOTE: The Password box should appear. See Figure 4 .

3. Enter a password you wish to use and click "OK" or press "Enter".

4. A second password box will appear prompting "Reenter Password". Re-enter the password entered in Step 2 and click "OK" or press "Enter".

5. The Password box will be removed. Click the Add button in the "Add" dialog box or press Enter. The Winzip window should again be in full view and file compression should be in progress.

NOTE: When extracting or un-zipping this file the user will be prompted to enter the password to complete the un-zip process.

Disk Spanning

1. Prepare to create a Zip file on a floppy disk. See How to use Winzip, Steps 1 - 8.

2. In the "Add" dialog box > "Multiple Disk Spanning" window, ensure "Automatic" is selected.

NOTE : The Zip file must be created on a floppy disk for disk spanning to be selected.

Selecting "Automatic + Wipe first disk prompt" in the "Multiple Disk Spanning" window will erase any disk that is inserted for the archiving of files.

"No Spanning" may also be selected in the "Multiple Disk Spanning" window.

3.Complete zipping or archiving as needed. When the floppy disk is filled to capacity, the user will be prompted to insert another disk.

NOTE :When opening the files on a spanned disk, the user will be prompted to insert the first and last disk of the set into the drive. Prompts will be given to insert disks as needed to complete the un-zip process.

Self Extracting Files

NOTE : A Self Extracting file is an Executable (.exe) Winzip file that the user can extract zipped files from without the use of Winzip. All the user has to do is run the Self Extracting file on a PC. The zipped files will be extracted to a pre-determined folder or to a folder that the user wishes.

1. Create a Self Extracting file as follows :

(a). Create a Zip file. See How to use Winzip, Steps 1 - 8 or open an existing Zip file.

NOTE : A self extracting file must be created from a Zip file. In this example we created the Zip file, "efsysmon.zip".

(b). In the Winzip window, select "Actions > Make .Exe File". The Winzip Self-Extractor (zip) dialog box should appear.

(c). In the Winzip Self-Extractor dialog box, select the "Browse" button to select the Zip file to convert into a Self Extracting file.

NOTE : The path and file may be typed in the "Create Self-Extracting .Zip file from:" window.

(d). Set the default "Unzip to" folder. Type in the path and folder that the file should be unzipped to if desired.

NOTE : If the default unzip folder does not exist on the PC that will be used to unzip the Self Extracting .Zip file, it will be created in the unzip process.

(e). Select Self Extracting file type.

NOTE : "16 bit" must be selected if the file is to be unzipped to a windows 3.1 PC.

(f). Click OK or press Enter. The Self Extracting file will be created. The self extracting file will have the same name as the converted Zip file with an .exe extension (Example.exe).

8. Unzip a Self Extracting file as follows :

(a). In the Windows Explorer or File Manager, double click the Self Extracting executable file. The Winzip Self-Extractor (unzip) Dialog Box should appear.

(b). Select "Browse" or enter the folder that the Self Extracting file is to be unzipped to.

NOTE : If nothing is selected or entered in the "Unzip to folder:" window, the extraction will be to the default setting or windows temporary file folder.

(c). Click OK or press Enter. The Self Extracting file will be unzipped to the folder set in Step (b).
